Batik 9-Patch

Simply and charming, this batik 9-patch gets the job done.  It's also a great scrap buster.  Pieced by Marge M., she used 2 different background fabrics - though you can't tell.
A leaf design was chosen to be quilted in the alternate plain blocks and sides.

The 9-patch blocks are quilted with connecting arcs with a lighter color thread.  This allows the background fabric to be quilted down, it doesn't compete with the design quilted next to it and it allows the batik fabrics to POP forward.
Because it's set on point, it really makes it more interesting to look at.  Super easy and great results!

Bonnie Hunter

We had a great lecture last night from Bonnie Hunter.  She told us how she manages her fabric and her method of organizing USABLE scraps.  We all have those bins of scraps - now I know what to do with them to turn them into something beautiful.  Here is the link to all the information she gave us.  It will take you to her website.   http://quiltville.com/scrapusersystempf.html

She is an energizer bunny.  She said she got in 5 hours of piecing in the last 24 hours.  She does a lot of things in 15-minute increments.  Photos from last night.  As you can see, we had a full house and I was in one of the last rows.
This one is called Midnight Flight and is one of the workshops this weekend.

All these were made from her stash of organized scraps.

I think the one below includes material she cut from men's shirts.  She uses any 100% cotton, cotton-linen shirt.  A 4X men's shirt is almost 2 yards of material.
If you don't like real scrappy, choose two colors plus a neutral.  I like how this turned out.
She often uses one solid color, red, to emphasize a design.
She started this because she had a lot of left over 3" nine-patches.

Her hexagon project.  Yes, she pieced 5 hexagons while she was waiting to speak.  Darn her!
Her website has over 45 free pattern on it and mounds of useful information.  Check it out:  http://quiltville.com/

POPQ Quilt Show

I have to post some quilt show photos from my guild, Pride of the Prairie.

These were taken before the ribbons.  I won a ribbon on my Spring Fling quilt and several others I quilted.  So exciting!  Some really good scrap quilt too.  Take a look:
 Great for 30's scraps.

Holly, 10 years old, made the quit above!  She calls it Zebralicious.  Holly chose the fabrics and did all the the piecing.  Mom, Denise Clayton, did the quilting.  And it is the same mom who won Viewer's Choice.  See this post:  http://simplydivinequilts.blogspot.com/2012/03/ribbon-winner.html   She's in my bee and we are so proud of Mom and daughter!

 Great for 30's scraps.

There are so many, I'm going to put them in a slide show.  Much simpler!

Blue Diamonds

This scrap-buster quilt was pieced by Kathy M.

It's made up from 2 1/2-inch strips of batik fabrics. Perfect for jelly rolls. She had quite a stash of batiks. She requested lines so I put an echoing spiral inside the blue diamonds and a single diamond echo inside the colored ones.
